About this blog

The author standing under a mushroom
This means my blog isn’t about anything in particular and that was the case until April 2011 when I took a camera with me on weekend walks.
I thought it would be good to upload a few pictures of each walk. I do not walk routes twice but may return to an area previously enjoyed. The only way for me to remember which area that might be is to look at a few photos.
So my blog has become a minor travelog. Written in the first person except paragraphs which deal with things I do not like to be associated with. I then turn into a literary coward and use the third person, or worse still a literary snob and switch to second person. How embarrassing. If you come across this kind of text you have to realise that Martyn is a mere amateur and needs nothing more than a gentle nod and smile and he’s happy to live in a fluffy-bunny land where people care about what he writes.
Friends and family do not like to mention my blogging exploits to their friends and family. That for me is an achievement.
About me
I like to run up hills and surprise the view. I lookup things I don’t understand. I go on long walks. I like hills, trees, open spaces. I enjoy natural navigation. I prefer books to kindles and I read carefully. I always have a pen knife and string.

My walks, hikes, rambles, kloofing, backpacking, excursions, treks, and walkabouts return to the starting point making it easy to plan your day.
